Following the passing of legendary Coach James “Doc” Counsilman, the American Swimming Coaches Association (ASCA) asked a group of his closest colleagues to create fund to achieve one of Doc’s goals – the improvement of swimming by using ideas from well outside the sport of swimming.
Doc always sought ideas from professionals and dedicated practitioners in other fields, in order to enhance his coaching, and encouraged the members of our profession to do likewise. The purpose of the fund is to help afford the fees and expenses of “special speakers” whom ASCA otherwise could not afford to fund to speak the Annual World Clinic.
As many of our Contributing Coaches attend the ASCA World Clinic every year and we all get to benefit from the talks of these extraordinary speakers, we are so proud to support the Counsilman Memorial Lecture Fund with a $100 donation in 2015 for the first time and hope to continue to do so every year.
