Basically, I think that many coaches do not emphasize the importance of the turn. I guess the term means 5 meters before and after the turn.
Watching the video I noticed that some swimmers slow down when they take their first breath after the turn and disturb their stream lining.
In my opinion it would be more beneficial to emphasize a none-breathing break out after the turn.
Yes – the idea is that the athletes work within the 5m mark and go right into a “phantom wall” at the flags. In this particular example shown in the video, the intensity was alternating fast & easy. Most of the athletes were breathing on their easy part to make it no breath on the fast parts.
