Freestyle Relaxation Drills

Vevey Natation

Short video showing one of my athletes demonstrate the freestyle relaxation drills. There are four different parts to this series which we usually do in a mini-set of 4×25 with 10″ rest or a couple bobs in between the 25’s.

This is also a great progression to work on body position and body line – the goal is to stay perfectly afloat and in line – eliminating all of the “parasite movements”. The mastery lies in completely relaxing and doing all this at the most easy pace.

Please leave a comment if you have any questions or opinions regarding this drill.

Steve can tend to be a very arm dominant swimmer and Nico coaches him daily on swimming much more connected. He really responded well to this drill – proud of him!

Here is a clip of Steve working on setting a high anchor/catch and connecting that anchor to his opposite hip through the core to create momentum. – Coach Kim Brackin from BEST
