Overall aerobic Thursday for the team in Vevey. With limited time in the morning, the focus was on a longer afternoon workout including options for our more sprint and distance focused athletes.
While on visit in the Florida Keys, I stopped by the Jacobs Aquatic Center in Key Largo to check on my old team. This is the FKSC’s Gold group Thursday afternoon individual medley workout.
The main set of this workout is known as the “Glen Housman” set. Glen Housman is an Australian, who won the silver medal in the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games.
This Wednesday evening workout was one of the more challenging practices of this cycle of the season so far. We were working on hitting specific race pace speeds on short rest intervals.
The goal of the workout was to set everybody up for a hard week of training and make good use of swimming long course for a change that evening.
We try to work in “event specific” groups as much as possible, so everybody gets to work on what they need to swim fast and perform at our target meets. During this Wednesday evening session, we split up in three groups – sprint, mid-distance and distance.
This was a full recovery workout where the team ended up going a little longer than I had initially planned for that evening session.
Aerobic freestyle focused Friday evening session from the Lancy Natation Elite Group including some back-half speed work.
Monday morning workout from the Fighting Manatee Masters Swim Team in the Florida Keys. This is an all levels general fitness practice with a focus on aerobic freestyle and strokes including some kicking and breath control work.
This was the first day back following our camp in Luxembourg. The goal of the two workouts was to give the team an active recovery day after two weeks of hard training and going back to their regular schedule with early morning practice, school or work and an evening session.
