Today’s set was submitted by Lauren, a super-motivated swimmer who loves to push herself to improve. Her set is simultaneously simple and challenging, and I only had to make one change: making round 2 breaststroke.
Pre-meet recovery focused Friday evening workout for the National & Junior National groups. We only spent an hour in the pool to get everybody home early, providing enough time to replenish and some “extra” sleep ahead of the morning travel.
Today’s set was provided by Logan, one of many National-level breaststrokers I had the pleasure of working with at SSAT! Logan loves sprinting, and her breaststroke is very kick-driven, so her set reflects that.
Thursday morning session for the student-athletes of the sports class mixing some low-end aerobic work and sprints to prepare them for the second anaerobic evening session of this week.
Today’s main set was courtesy of Elisa, a swimmer who absolutely thrives on threshold sets. She provided the IM/free and I added in the specifics about the breaststroke legs to make sure we were focusing on that stroke.

Five swimmers responded to Saturday’s blurb, so for this week there’s a swimmer-submitted set for each day. I gave the swimmers basic guidelines to follow, but ultimately they wrote the set. Remember, this is also breaststroke week, much to their dismay! Kevin is a huge fan of kick, so unsurprisingly his set is focused in that area.
Starting this week with another shorter Monday evening session with a mix of aerobic kicking and sprints in the pool alternating with the dryland as we were again running two groups.
Another fast Saturday! At this point I was realizing the swimmers weren’t really reading the blurbs at the top of their workouts … I’d always include a quick guide to the colour zone system and a legend of abbreviations, but I’d still get “what’s red?” or “what does dps mean?” so I got creative.
Speed focused Saturday morning including some fast 50’s kicking and fast 25’s swimming. We were again split up in two groups with each spending 1h in the pool and 1h on dryland.
