This is a larger than average main set, with intervals that were a bit easier than the average intervals we have been using. Of note, the workout following this one was a fly-based practice (60×50 (:45) — odds Free + evens Fly).

09/21/2013 PM – Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center (Schroeder North – Junior I)
Today’s main set had some light race pace work (10 x 100 on 1:45 – @ Race Pace). After warm-up we went over our technical progression for free and back.

Today was our first day of practice for the 2013-2014 short course season. We started out with some freestyle flotation drills.
T2 Aquatics – “Add-on” IM Set
This is an “add-on” IM set that I really like. As the set progresses, the athlete focuses on the final portion of each repeat. Each distance should have a slight descend 1-3 to it as well, with some bigger descends towards the end of the set.

T2 Aquatics – Active Rest Breaststroke
The idea with this set was to repeat fast 50s Breaststroke with (45) seconds of active recovery between each one. I asked the athletes to stick with flipturns over the course of the set — including the breaststroke 50s.

T2 Aquatics – Early Fall General Workout
This workout is designed to help an athlete improve general fitness through dryland work and kicking. I added some pulling to help us get our base volume up at the beginning of the fall without overtaxing the athletes.
