Season at the Y – Week 5

For all the age group coaches out there I decided to post a seasons worth of workouts from a group I coached at the Y back in 2005-2006. The season consisted of 25 weeks and I was working with mostly beginners who were new to the sport of swimming . . .

Feb 25, 2013 – Vevey Natation

Monday evening workout and start of another week of training for the team in Vevey. We were looking at the last couple of hard days in the pool as we prepared for our final meet on the weekend before Long Course Nationals two weeks later.

Speed focused Friday evening session for the team in Vevey. This was the type of workout that doesn’t need a lot of explaining.

This was our last workout with a kick focused main set leading up to Swiss Nationals. We will continue to work the legs but need to give those “big” muscles some more rest.

Coming off our Christmas training camp, we have been lacking mostly speed. I kind of expected this as December to February is usually a more training focused time for us.

Monday evening workout following an hour of a dryland circuit training. We worked in two groups and still kept the aerobic elements but added intensity.

Wednesday evening has been our stroke specific day of the week in this preparation cycle. The aerobic-recovery remains an important part of this workout but it did include some short high intensity or fast pace swims depending on the group.

Follow up on our Monday workout – another afternoon focused on aerobic-recovery getting a big part of the aerobic work done through kicking and drills. We also kept working on our speed with some short sprints and a couple fast 25’s.
