Season at the Y – Week 1
For all the age group coaches out there I decided to post a seasons worth of workouts from a group I coached at the Y back in 2005-2006. The season consisted of 25 weeks and I was working with mostly beginners who were new to the sport of swimming . . .

Feb 7, 2013 – Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center (Schroeder North)
Morning practices at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center are combined masters, senior and advanced age group athletes. The main set works the aerobic/anaerobic energy systems and mixes in some 0 to 60 MPH speed work.
Jan 31, 2013 – T2 Aquatics
This workout is a great way to train back-half speed with great stroke and no scrambling. I believe there’s a big difference in “sprinting” a 100 – to “see what you can do” and splitting a 100 Negative by 1.0-1.5 seconds.
Feb 6, 2013 – T2 Aquatics – Kicking – “Guess your time”
This workout is meant for the athlete who has been doing a good job with their kicking and would like to mix it up a bit. You’ll get some good kicking in without getting into a 1200-1500 meter kicking set.
Feb 4, 2013 – NTC Aquatics
This morning was more of an aerobic technique with mixed pulling and some kicking drills. However, tonight we emphasized work on threshold.
Jan 28, 2013 – Vevey Natation
Those are two workouts from Monday following a two day break over the weekend for one part of the team and a two day meet for the other part of the team.

This is the third workout of the week and also the third in our “Wednesday afternoon series” working in groups on stroke specific elements.

Today, we kept the same theme from the previous evening session working on short pace and aerobic recovery coming off a three day meet this past weekend.
Jan 30, 2013 – T2 Aquatics
Giving this workout is a great way to tax your group to the fullest without swimming a ton of long distance freestyle.
