Since we did breaststroke all last week, this week we focused on butterfly. I always try to tackle group-wide issues within my practice plan, so for this workout I wanted the swimmers to focus on small kicks (low amplitude) and a more neutral arm recovery.
The student-athletes of the sports class starting their Tuesday with an aerobic focused morning workout including some short speed sets to prepare for the anaerobic threshold practice with the rest of the team in the evening.
Post-meet recovery this Monday evening for the National & Junior National groups with mostly relaxed aerobic work to kick off this new week of training and “adjusting” to long course again.
The final day of breaststroke week was also a Saturday, which meant one hour of fast swimming. Our final set creator for the week was Haley, who opted to have the group do 25m walkbacks after a 20-minute warm-up, then some relays.
Kicking off short course season competing at the Fricktal-Cup this Saturday afternoon. Providing an activation to get everybody “sweaty” before jumping in the pool for the warm-up. Overall a good meet for our athletes after a few more weeks of training.

Pre-meet recovery focused Friday evening workout for the National & Junior National groups. We only spent an hour in the pool to get everybody home early, providing enough time to replenish and some “extra” sleep ahead of the morning travel.
Today’s set was provided by Logan, one of many National-level breaststrokers I had the pleasure of working with at SSAT! Logan loves sprinting, and her breaststroke is very kick-driven, so her set reflects that.
Thursday morning session for the student-athletes of the sports class mixing some low-end aerobic work and sprints to prepare them for the second anaerobic evening session of this week.
