We keep using Saturday mornings for racing practice with our “50’s test set”. This week without equipment but an option to put on a race suit and going from the block.
Active recovery focused Friday providing two options for the same type of work with different approaches keeping things basic and simple.
Our weekly cycle in this phase has Thursday providing two options with one being a speed and sprint focused session while the other one includes more of aerobic and “power” type of work with resistance.
Mid-week recovery practice offering two options and variations of those to provide as much “freedom” to the athlete as possible.
Speed based Tuesday session including sets of fast 25’s and short sprints. The number of repeats decrease during the three parts to keep the tempo and intensity at the highest level possible throughout.
Monday session including plenty of speed and sprint work alternating fast swimming and kicking. We also continue to use fins & paddles for above race speed and extra power during the fast efforts.
Second fast Saturday to close out another week of training. Again just a single set and a type of “meet simulation” with the individual warm-up to get ready for the set of 50’s.
Another short and recovery focused Friday session. A mix of a little bit of everything including a short kick-swim set in the first part and breath control through the second part.
Like last week Thursday was providing two options again with #1 being a speed focused session while #2 included resistance work.
Shorter mid-week recovery and kicking focused session. One of our “goals” during this phase is to make those recovery practices “optimal dose” – really keeping them short and low intensity to aid recovery as much as possible and still keeping the feel for the water.
