Coming off our Christmas training camp, we have been lacking mostly speed. I kind of expected this as December to February is usually a more training focused time for us.

Monday evening workout following an hour of a dryland circuit training. We worked in two groups and still kept the aerobic elements but added intensity.

Wednesday evening has been our stroke specific day of the week in this preparation cycle. The aerobic-recovery remains an important part of this workout but it did include some short high intensity or fast pace swims depending on the group.

Follow up on our Monday workout – another afternoon focused on aerobic-recovery getting a big part of the aerobic work done through kicking and drills. We also kept working on our speed with some short sprints and a couple fast 25’s.

This was Monday evening four weeks out of our National Championships. We were about to enter our last two weeks of high intensity training but of course recovery starts to play a more important role at this time.

This is a great way to get a good amount of fast stroke swimming from your athletes! I like doing this type of work with my athletes. At times, I may ask for a smaller amount of longer distance repeats – so this type of set balances out the longer-repeat style of training that we use.
