Already school holidays again and we have two “camp weeks” with more opportunities for additional morning sessions ahead of us. Starting this first week with a recovery focused Monday morning as the Junior National group athletes were coming off a meet in Oerlikon.
Saturday morning providing another opportunity to race for our National team athletes. The events were the same as last evening with the aim to simulate a prelims/finals meet in our training cycle towards Long Course Nationals.
I try to dedicate one day a week to a bit more kick focus. I try to mix this up with our stroke work from time to time and keep it fresh for the athletes especially since yesterday was an aerobic freestyle day.
Breaking with our “FriYAY formula” this week as the younger athletes of the group will be competing at the Hallenjugendtag in Oerlikon over the weekend and we will have some racing at home with the older athletes.
Overall recovery focused Thursday starting with a relaxed morning session for the student-athletes of the sports class including mostly low-end aerobic freestyle and breath control work.
Hump day evening practice following up on Monday’s anaerobic capacity session with more race pace focused work for the National & Junior National groups this Wednesday.
Tuesday morning practice for the student-athletes of the sports class with an aerobic focused session including kicking – regular, vertical and “resisted” against the wall, as well as sprints.
A bit more generic aerobic mid-distance type of work in the pool including some dryland to start the week. Depending on the phase of the season I like to start the week with some longer swimming to shake the Sunday break off.
Monday evening practice for the National & Junior National groups kicking off our next phase of this cycle where we will be working on anaerobic capacity and hitting race pace. This session was kind of an “intro” and slowly building up speed through the different parts of the workout.
