Swimmer’s Ear – Episode 14 – Water Safety

This week’s episode of the Swimmer’s Ear is a little more serious. As coaches, we have a responsibility to “Do No Harm,” and I feel as though that includes teaching our athletes how to avoid harm.

I provide a list of ways to stay safe in and around open water and some advice about how to promote water safety to athletes and their parents. Remember to always prepare for the worst. You should always have a Personal Flotation Device (PFD/lifejacket), basic first aid equipment, a whistle or other noise maker, a flashlight, and leave behind a Float Plan.

Water safety and drowning prevention are important topics to all of us at ProSwimWorkouts and we have supported multiple organizations such as the International Water Safety Foundation in the past.
