Aerobic recovery focused Friday practice for the National & Junior National groups including our “PISTE blocks” at the beginning of each of the three parts also functioning as meet preparation.
Overall fast day of training starting with another morning session for the student-athletes of our sports class alternating short sprints with aerobic kicking and pulling.
Hump day evening practice for the National & Junior National groups combining kicking and speed work for the second day in a row this week. Although the first 3 sets of 8×100’s were thought to be all kicking, we did allow for the “easy parts” to be full stroke swimming, if the intervals were “too challenging” for the younger athletes.
Overall fast day of training for the National & Junior National groups starting with the first morning session for the student-athletes of our sports class following our break and the Spring holidays including relaxed aerobic work and short sprints.
Starting this new week with a shorter aerobic based evening practice. Kicking will continue to be a big part of our work this week but overall our focus will shift to speed culminating with the meet in Biel where we aim to get a few more fast short course swims before racing will take place in the big pool for the rest of the season.
Sprint focused Saturday morning practice for the National & Junior National groups to close out this first week of training following our break including racing skills and breath control as recovery.
Longer aerobic focused Friday evening practice for the National & Junior National groups following a “kick-pull-swim” pattern and finishing with some social kicking.
Aerobic kicking focused Thursday evening practice for the National & Junior National groups including “resisted” and “assisted” sprints.
Wednesday practice for the National & Junior National groups continuing our aerobic and sprint themed first week back in the pool following our break. This evening we emphasized “fast feet” with short flutter or underwater fly kicking sprints.
First day back following our break with an aerobic and sprint focused evening practice for the National & Junior National groups. We will emphasize kicking this first week as we try to slowly increase volume and also integrate plenty of skills such as dive & glide and underwaters with some of our younger athletes preparing for “national testing day”.
